BILL GATES KNOWS HOW TO ANSWER THE QUESTION “WHY SHOULD WE HIRE YOU?” CAN YOU?

Do you know why interviewees have so much trouble with identifying their strengths and weaknesses? It’s because many job seekers do not take the time to assess their skills, capabilities, strengths and weaknesses.

There are many ways to determine what your skills and capabilities are, what activities you like to perform, and in what environment you are most comfortable. Here are 3 things you can do:

  1. Do some self-assessment. There are lots of free assessments on-line that you can take to get a good picture of your skills, abilities and personality preferences

  2. Use a professional career consultant to take you through an in-depth process of assessment

  3. Ask people you already know and have worked with in the past and ask them their perceptions of your capabilities

Once you have completed your assessment begin to work those accomplishments, skills and abilities into your response to “Why Should We Hire You?”

By the way, Bill Gates, in a recent article by Kylie Schnitzer, answered the question this way:

“You should look at the codes that I’ve written. I write software programs way beyond any classes that I’ve taken. I think I’ve gotten better over time, so take a look at how ambitious I’ve been there. I do think I can work well with people. I might criticize their code a little harshly, but overall, I like to be on a team. I like ambitious goals. I like thinking through how we can anticipate the future. Software is cool and I want to be involved.”
